One of the city’s largest and most popular events, Mardi Gras attracts a multitude of national and international visitors. March 12-14: 24th MasterCraft Safety Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250 Desert Race
More than 275 cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs attempt to complete a challenging 232-mile loop course that starts and finishes in the town of San Felipe on the Sea of Cortés. Competitors have 10 hours to officially finish the race. On Friday, the pre-race Manufacturer’s Midway and tech inspection is from 10am-6pm on San Felipe’s waterfront malecón. On Saturday, motorcycles and ATVs take off at 6am, followed by trucks and cars at approximately 10am, at the start line located at the landmark San Felipe arches on Highway 5 on the outskirts of town. A comedy/mystery centered on the editorial crew of a small, dying newspaper in a small, dying town. The paper has become part of a chain and is in a general state of collapse until several grisly murders occur in the town generating excitement, and, most importantly, copy for news stories. The crew makes futile efforts to solve the murders with comic results. May 29 & 30: 31st Annual La Misión Fiesta
A family style country festival with parades, rodeo contests, cultural exhibitions, regional foods, live entertainment and a Saturday night Cowboy Camp & Bonfire. It is held at the site of San Miguel Arcangel de la Frontera Mission at Km. 65.5 on the Tijuana-Ensenada Free Road (from Toll Road, take La Fonda exit). The fiesta kicks off on Saturday with sports contests at 8am, rodeo contests at 3pm, folkloric dancing at 4pm, the 13th Annual State Calabaceado Dance Festival at 4:30pm, and a bonfire and dance at 8pm. Sunday festivities begin with Catholic mass at 9am, followed by a civic parade at 10am, folkloric dance groups from 12:30-5pm, a cabalgata (procession of costumed horseback riders) at 2:35pm, rodeo at 3pm, and a special performance of “Nativo,” a contemporary dance production based on the history of Baja California, from 5:20-6pm. June 4-6: 42nd Tecate SCORE Baja 500
The legendary desert race in which nearly 300 cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs from 26 U.S. states and 9 countries traverse 438.81 miles of rugged mountain, forest and desert terrain in their attempts to “beat the Baja.” This year’s race starts and finishes in front of Ensenada’s historic Riviera Cultural Center on Blvd. Costero (Lázaro Cárdenas), leaving and returning through the arroyo wash. On Friday, June 4, the pre-race SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway and tech inspection takes place on the boulevard from 10am-6pm. Día de Muertos is one of Mexico's most traditional religious holidays as deceased loved ones are remembered with special altars, flowers, candles and their favorite foods.
