As an added attraction to Fiestas
de la Vendimia 2005, the Baja California Winemakers Association sponsored
a “Baja California Landscape (Paisaje de Baja
California)” photo contest. Open
to amateur and professional photographers residing in the state of Baja
California, the contest attracted more than four dozen participants from
Ensenada, Tijuana, Mexicali and San Quintín who submitted nearly
150 entries. Approximately one third of the photos were selected for exhibition
at the 15th Wine Experience at the Riviera Cultural Center, an event that
was inaugurated by Baja California Governor Eugenio Elorduy Walther on
the evening of August 5.
Governor Elorduy also officially announced the winners of the “Paisaje
de Baja California” photo contest: Julio Rodríguez of Tijuana, who
was awarded $500 dlls. for his first place photo of La Rumarosa; Carlos
Horacio Méndez of Ensenada, who won $200 dlls. for his second place
seascape photo; and Abelardo Serrano of Ensenada, who received $100
dlls. for his third place photo of Valle de Guadalupe. Honorable mentions
were awarded to: Jaime Delfín, Ensenada; Jorge Francisco Sánchez,
Tijuana; Pablo Sánchez, Ensenada; Connie Ellig, Ensenada; Julio
Rodríguez, Tijuana; and Enrique Fuentes, Ensenada.
Following the ceremony, the governor, dignitaries, press, photographers
and well-wishers retired to the gardens of the Riviera to sample the various
wines and appetizers of Baja California vintners and restaurants.
