Rolling Stone calls their music “feverishly danceable.” Billboard
describes their 2002 debut album as a blend of “electronica, scratching
and rock (with) irresistible rhythms.” Their sound has been labeled “innovative,”
“daring,” “funky,” “international,” and “contagious.” Call it what you
will, Kinky brought it all to Ensenada on March 6, 2004 in a high-energy
concert at the Gran Chaparral.
Los
Tetas and Plastiko warm up the crowd

The excitement built as Chile’s Los Tetas opened with their own distinctive
style of rock and funk. Then Guadalajara’s Plastiko took the stage and
stepped it up. But when Kinky finally appeared and began the first few
notes of their dynamic anthem “Más,” the crowd erupted. The music
was pulse pounding, the dancing was nonstop, and intense energy flowed
as Kinky rocked the house until early morning. It was awesome.
Hailing from Monterrey, Mexico, Kinky combines the stylishness of American
and European dance grooves and right-on rock ’n roll with traditional Latin
rhythms for a fresh and original sound. The Grammy-nominated five-man group
has performed on David Letterman, the Craig Kilborn Show,
and MTV2. Their signature song, “Más,” has been used in Nissan and
Smirnoff Ice TV spots as well as films like “Alias,” “2 Fast 2 Furious,”
and “The Real Cancún.”
Ensenada was Kinky’s twelfth stop on a thirty-date tour of Mexico promoting
their second album, “Atlas,” released in November 2003. At a press conference
held before the concert in Mango-Mango Bar, bilingual members of the group
fielded questions about their music, goals and lifestyles from state and
local Spanish and English language media.
Concert sponsors included Telcel, EXA FM Radio 106.9, Fender, Motorola,
and Dos Equis Lager. For more information about Kinky, visit www.kinkytheband.com
