Organized by UABC University and CANIRAC Chamber of Restaurants, Ensenada’s
7th
Annual Mushroom Festival, held on June 13, 2004, was an unqualified
success. Nearly 1,600 visitors packed the fiesta area on Paseo Calle Primera
and devoured vast quantities of marinated mushrooms, sautéed mushrooms,
mushroom kebobs, mushrooms in puff pastry, mushroom burritos, mushroom
salad, pasta with mushrooms, and other creative mushroom-based fare accompanied
with beer, wine, margaritas, sodas, coffees and bottled water. There were
children’s drawing contests, educational exhibitions and plenty of live
entertainment.
Behind the scenes, Ensenada and Rosarito chefs engaged in a culinary
competition of mushroom dishes that were judged by the Baja California
Chefs Association with San Diego Chef de Cuisine Joaquin Cueva as coordinator.
