Ensenada Photographers Honored

A small but select group of Ensenada photographers were recently
honored for their artistic contributions to “Paisaje Natural del
Estado de Baja
California,” a book published by the Secretaría de
Protección al Ambiente in
coordination with the Instituto de Cultura de Baja California. Among
the
environmental and cultural officials who attended the special reception
and
book presentation held on April 16, 2008 at Ensenada’s Centro Estatal
de las Artes
(CEARTE) were Baja California State Government Subsecretary General
Miguel Angel
Barreto, Secretary of Environmental Protection Sócrates Bastida
Hernández,
Director of State Environmental Impact Thelma Castañeda
Custodio, Director of Municipal
Ecology Héctor Chávez, and the Director of the Institute
of Culture in Ensenada,
Vanesa Verdugo.
The 80-page “Paisaje Natural del Estado de
Baja California” is
a 14” x 8” soft cover book that features informative Spanish text in
addition
to numerous color and black & white images of Baja California’s
diverse
natural landscapes – mountains, deserts, valleys and coasts. The book’s
98
photos were carefully selected from 195 entries submitted to the jury
of the “Primera
Muestra Fotográfica de Paisaje Natural del Estado de Baja
California” Photo
Contest, held in conjunction with the Instituto de Cultura’s “Quinta
Bienal Fotográfica”
in November 2006. More than a third of the published images are the
works of the
twelve resident Ensenada photographers: Benjamín Pacheco
López, Berenice
Carrillo Tripa, Connie Ellig, David Hopps, Elena García
González, Emeric
Alberto Pérez Arce, Enrique Botello Abarca, Enrique Fuentes
Parra, Flabio
Alberto Pérez Arce, Inés Arámburo
Rodríguez, José Angel Sánchez and Luis Arturo
Martínez Ríos del Río.
With an initial printing of 1,000 copies, “Paisaje Natural
del Estado de Baja California” will not be found at bookstores yet. It
is only
available through the offices of the Secretaría de
Protección al Ambiente,
which plans to generate funds for a second printing that may be
purchased by
the general public.
