On
July 28, Mayor César Mancillas formally presented ten public works
vehicles to the City of Ensenada at an outdoor ceremony held at the Palacio
Municipal (City Hall). Of the ten vehicles, five were surplus trash collection
trucks donated by the Sister City of Riverside, California and several
private companies from Riverside. The much-needed vehicles are a significant
contribution to solving Ensenada’s trash collection problems.
On hand for the occasion were Riverside City Councilman Frank Schiavone,
Council Assistant Lorena Guerrero and Steve Frasher, Assistant to Riverside
Mayor Ron Loveridge. After a series of short speeches emphasizing mutual
friendship and cooperation, Mayor Mancillas presented plaques of appreciation
to each of the Riverside dignitaries and one to Mayor Loveridge, which
was accepted in absentia.
Following the ceremony, the roar of engines filled the air as the huge
trash trucks and the rest of the fleet exited the City Hall parking lot
and began a noisy but impressive procession up Avenida Reforma. “It’s not
a glamorous donation,” said Steve Frasher, “but it’s one that is crucial
to Ensenada and its people.”
