Olivo Wins 2005 Seafood Fair Grand Award

 With
its peaceful waterfront panorama and monumental Mexican flag waving in
the breeze, Plaza Ventana al Mar Plaza was the perfect setting for 27th
Ensenada International Seafood Fair held on September 11, 2005.
Nearly a dozen restaurants from Baja and Southern California competed for
trophies in this prestigious culinary event that is organized by CANIRAC
Chamber of Restaurants and is judged by prominent chefs from the Chefs
de Cuisine Association of San Diego, CA. The seven competition categories
included Hot and Cold Fish, Hot and Cold Shellfish/Combination, Artistic
Creation, Seafood Soup, and Baja California Wine-Based Seafood Dish.
 Top
honors of the day went to one of Ensenada’s newest restaurants, El Olivo,
which captured the coveted 2005 Overall Grand Award as well as numerous
trophies in various competition categories. Restaurant La Tertulia of Ensenada
also garnered trophies in almost every category. Other winners included
San Diego’s Sea World, Ensenada’s La Embotelladora Vieja and Bajamar, and
Habana Banana of La Bufadora, which also received the EnsenadaGazette.com
trophy for “Best Image/Booth.”
 Every
year at the Seafood Fair, CANIRAC pays tribute to one of its members who
has contributed to the growth and development of Ensenada’s restaurant
industry. This year, Gilberto Osuna,
founder of Restaurant Casamar, was honored for his 30 years of dedication
and service. What began in 1975 as a small restaurant with a dozen or so
seafood selections is now one of Ensenada’s larger and most renowned family-operated
dining establishments with an extensive menu of seafood specialties. Congratulations,
Don Gilberto and staff!
Congratulations are also extended to CANIRAC, San Diego Chefs de Cuisine
and all of the restaurants, wineries, exhibitors and sponsors whose enthusiastic
participation contributed to the success of this impressive annual event!
